UN-Habitat to Set-up Youth Fund

ImageRecognizing the importance of youth-led development initiatives in addressing urban issues, the UN-Habitat Governing Council has agreed to establish a youth fund. The establishment of the fund was discussed during the Governing Council meetings in Nairobi, Kenya from April 16-20th.

The establishment of the youth fund by UN Habitat is a milestone achievement for young global leaders who have been requesting the establishment of such a fund at international events including the UN World Urban Forum in Vancouver, Canada (2006) and the World Youth Congress in Stirling, Scotland (2005).

Youth Capacity Building Workshop in Dar es Salaam

PLUS Network project leader Victoria Smith, working in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, organized a workshop for 37 youth representatives from 10 youth groups entitled "Proposal Development Writing Skills—How to Secure Project Funding." The 2-day workshop was developed to assist youth in Dar es Salaam to write proposals to secure funding for small income generating projects. Sustainability, Students, & the University

ICSC staff member Amber Zirnhelt participated in a panel on "Sustainability, Students, and the University" at UBC’s sustainability conference held Jan.19-20, 2007. The panel focused on ways that the institution and students can collaborate to promote sustainability, both internally and externally with non-governmental organizations in the broader community. ICSC offered expertise on international youth-led development initiatives and the importance of youth involvement in long-term sustainable community planning.
