Urban Sustainability Project Management

Urban sustainability projects can confront practitioners with high and sometimes overwhelming levels of complexity. In these conditions, traditional approaches to project management provide limited guidance for leading successful projects as they are grounded in more linear and reductionist thinking. Using the theories of complex adaptive systems and practitioners' knowledge, Sustainable Cities International provides unique approaches to project management that can be adapted to the nature and scope of the project.

SCI works with practitioners to:

  • Conduct a needs assessment to identify local contexts, issues, and situational challenges that need to be addressed
  • Develop and implement project management tools and approaches designed for working in complex urban and human systems
  • Determine training needs required to build capacity of the organization and its people
