Developing the City's tourism assets and potential are key priorities for both the City of Dar es Salaam and the Tanzanian Governmnet. Intern Chris Carnovale plays a key role in facilitating linkages between the private and public sector, stimulating urban planning and tourism product development, and bringing the benefits of tourism into local communities.

Chris CarnovaleI am working full swing on the development of a Draft Business Plan for the Tourism Executive Board. As part of the development of this document, I worked with tourism experts Geoff Bird from Royal Roads University and Chris Bottrill from Capilano University's Tourism Management Degree Program to develop a set of question to engage with local tourism stakeholders.

Tourism Executive Board

We have just received ratification from full council that they recognize the Dar es Salaam Tourism Executive Board. Since then the board has met on three occasions and in those meetings the general feeling is that we are moving in the right direction.

Waterfront Clean-up Day

The Waterfront clean-up day was a huge success in Dar es Salaam and brought together citizens, local tourism industry, the City, Port Authority and the Tourism Executive Board. On the day of the event we saw some members on the waterfront participating and working away on a common goal.
