WATERFRONT PLANNING
Intern Patrick Santoro is working with the Dar es Salaam City Council, Tourism Executive Board, and Tanzanian Port Authority to develop a long-term plan for the development of the city's waterfront. His work will assist in the development of the City's Master Plan and sustainable tourism planning.

There has been a lot of buzz in Dar es Salaam since the Waterfront Clean-Up Day and City Council and the Tanzanian Port Authority are looking at what we can do next. The success of the event has lead to everyone involved looking for the best strategy to keep the waterfront clean, attractive and a tourist destination.

The Sustainable Cities: PLUS Network Peer Exchange on Sustainable Tourism just held in Dar es Salaam was an excellent opportunity for delegates from Durban, Dakar, Dar es Salaam and Canada to discuss important issues regarding tourism, climate change and urban planning.

The waterfront clean-up day was a huge success (and even better was the dancing on the beach that carried on until 6 pm). Over 400 residents came out to clean up Dar es Salaam's waterfront, where we expected only about 150.
